The PDF that lands on your WhatsApp after a tournament has four boxes at the top. Here's what each one really means.
Score
The number of points your child won across all rounds. A win is 1 point, a draw is half a point, a loss is zero. Higher is better. Always.
NCR before / NCR after
Your child's national rating right before this event and right after. If the after is higher, they outperformed expectations and the rating moved up. If lower, they underperformed for one event — totally normal, ratings move both ways.
Performance rating
This is the most powerful number on the page. It says: "if this is how you played in this event, your true level is about this number." If performance is much higher than NCR-before, expect more rating gains in coming events.
One question to ask your child
"Which game was the hardest one you won?" Not the loss they're upset about — the win that surprised them. That's the game they should look back at again next week.
