About NCR (National Chess Rating)

4 common questions

What is NCR?
NCR — National Chess Rating — is a national chess rating system that counts every over-the-board (OTB) game you play, not just FIDE-rated events. Same Article 8 formula FIDE uses, applied to a wider game pool.
Why does NCR exist when FIDE ratings already do?
FIDE captures only events registered with FIDE. For most Indian players — school events, club rapids, district championships — those games go uncounted. NCR is the layer that lets every game add up.
Is NCR a competitor to FIDE?
No. NCR works alongside FIDE. Your FIDE rating remains your FIDE rating. NCR is the broader picture that includes both FIDE-rated and non-FIDE events.
How accurate is the NCR number?
For a player who plays only FIDE-rated events, NCR and FIDE track within ±20 points after a full season. For players whose game pool is wider, NCR is more representative of their actual playing level.

For players

4 common questions

How do I get a NCR ID?
Visit /try, paste a chess-results.com event you played, find your name, verify your WhatsApp — your free NCR ID lands the same moment. Takes 60 seconds.
Is my NCR ID permanent?
Yes. One ID for life. It follows you across tournaments, federations, age categories.
What if I haven't played a tournament yet?
You can still claim a free NCR ID. Your rating starts at 1200 (the NCR floor) and updates after your first event.
Can I delete my NCR account?
Yes — one click from your profile. We delete your phone, name, email, and personal data. Historical game results remain in our anonymous statistical aggregates only.

For parents

4 common questions

I don't play chess. Will I understand the report?
Yes — the parent-readable PDF was designed for non-chess parents. Score, rating before, rating after, performance — plain numbers with one-line explanations.
How do reports reach me?
On WhatsApp, to the number you verify with us. The PDF usually lands within a day or two of the tournament. Once the organiser publishes results, our system pulls them and builds your report.
Will my child's data be shared?
No. Your child's identifying data (name, phone, school) is never sold or shared. Only the anonymous rating-pool aggregates leave our systems.
Are reports really free?
The first 2 tournament reports are free. After that, NCR Pro at ₹40/month (billed ₹480/year) sends a report after every event your child plays.

For organisers

4 common questions

What does 8by8verse give an organiser?
A branded portal at bspm.local/o/your-academy, FIDE-grade pairings (the same bbpPairings engine Swiss-Manager uses), online registration with UPI/card payments, post-event Insights Reports, and auto-WhatsApp to past players when you publish your next event.
I already use Swiss-Manager. Do I have to switch?
No. Run side-by-side. The pairing math is identical (same engine). What 8by8verse adds: online registration, branded portal, parent reports, retention engine to past players.
Will AICF accept ratings filed from 8by8verse?
Yes. Cross-table exports are in the format AICF expects. FIDE-grade audit per round.
How much does it cost?
Your first tournament is free. Organiser Yearly is ₹1,499/year (launch offer; MRP ₹3,200) — unlimited tournaments, branded portal, auto-reports.

For coaches

4 common questions

Why exactly is this free for coaches?
Because the NCR mission — making every OTB game count, for every player — only matters if coaches are equipped to do what they do best. Coaches build the chess community that gives the platform its meaning; the platform builds the tools that take the admin off your shoulders. Keeping these tools free for coaches is how 8by8verse contributes to the ecosystem it serves.
What does the free coach suite include?
Branded coach page at /coach/your-name, auto Sunday Tests, monthly parent progress PDFs, curriculum / homework tracking, game analysis from PGN or scoresheet photo, and coach attribution for life on every student you onboard.
Can a student leave me for another coach?
Only you can release the coach-attribution tag on a student. Until you do, your name appears on their NCR profile. No silent poaching.
I teach 3 students from home. Is this overkill?
No. Even 3 students × 1 monthly report × 12 months = 36 retention touch-points/year you weren't sending. Set up takes 60 seconds; runs itself after.

Billing & account

4 common questions

How do I subscribe to a paid plan?
Visit /pricing, pick a plan, pay via UPI / card / netbanking. Subscription activates immediately.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. One click from your account settings. Your subscription remains active for the time you've already paid; we don't pro-rate refunds for partial periods.
Do you accept international payments?
Yes — Stripe handles non-India payments. Pricing is shown in INR with a USD equivalent visible from the country switcher.
I lost my login password. How do I reset?
On the /login page, click "Reset password". A reset link goes to your registered email. If you used the synthesised NCR-ID email (e.g. ncr1000247@ncr.local), update it to a real email from your profile first.

Privacy & data

4 common questions

Will my WhatsApp number be sold or spammed?
No. Phone numbers are used for OTP verification and report delivery only. We don't sell. We don't share with third parties. We don't WhatsApp you unless you opted in or you played a new event.
Where is my data stored?
On Indian servers (Mumbai region). For non-India users, data is mirrored to the nearest available region for latency, with India remaining the canonical source.
Can I download all my data?
Yes — full data export is one click from your profile. JSON + PDF formats. Includes your game history, ratings, reports.
How do I delete my account?
One click from your profile. We delete your phone, name, email, personal identifiers. Game results stay in anonymous statistical aggregates so historical rating computations remain valid, but nothing identifies you.
